Welcome to my bakehouse. 

Let me introduce myself. My name is Kate Crowder Svendsen,
and I am a private baker, based in Richmond, Virginia.

I grew up on a worn, cobbled street, in the heart of our nation’s capital, and moved to the Commonwealth in 2013 in search of a new beginning. As a former dancer and marketing professional, with an inherited knack for storytelling, it’s been a journey to turn my passion for baking into a business, and I am thrilled to continue to
share my passion with you.

As a self-taught baker, most of what I know came about through my insatiable desire for knowledge, mixed in with great experiences working at some of the District’s and Richmond’s most beloved and popular bakeries.

I learned from an early age that food was one of our most powerful memory makers. From hours spent watching my grandmother carefully craft her menus over her farm kitchen counter to relishing the taste of something that instantly reminded me of her warm dining room, I appreciate that our sense of taste is closely connected with our sense of nostalgia, comfort, and bliss. This is why I do what I do, to create (or to help recreate) that very same feeling for my family and friends, and now, for my clients.
